About the Frank O.H. Williams Fellowships Program
Applications for the 2026 Summer Fellowship program will open in October / November 2025. Please watch this webpage for further updates and a link to apply.
Each summer, the Club provides Yale College students from Greater Hartford the opportunity to gain valuable experience while serving their community. The Club sponsors several paid internships at local nonprofit organizations ‒ typically four internships per year. The interns, also known as Frank O.H. Williams fellows, have worked at:
ACLU Foundation of Connecticut
Connecticut Association of Boards of Education
Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities
Connecticut Department of Children & Families
Connecticut Department of Public Health
Connecticut Invention Convention
Farmington Community Chest
Hartford Habitat for Humanity
Hartford HealthCare
Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services (IRIS)
The Jackson Laboratory
Mark Twain House & Museum
Office of the Secretary of the State
Real Art Ways
TheaterWorks
Wheeler Health
Our sponsored interns have made significant impacts at their host institutions, enthusiastically completing a wide range of projects including:
Creating maps, data visualizations, and other analyses and reports in support of policy work
Reviewing curriculum and preparing lesson plans and materials for educational programs
Ideating and helping implement youth engagement strategies
Conducting community outreach
Creating, maintaining, and contributing content for websites and blogs
Developing brochures, posters, and educational videos
Impact of the Summer Fellowship Program
Over the past ten years, the Yale Club of Hartford has sponsored more than 35 Yale student summer fellows at Hartford-area not-for-profit organizations and government agencies. This has included funding well over $100,000 of stipends to alleviate cost-of-living for summer fellows and to help organizations hosting students stretch budgets even further while benefiting from the talents of caring Yale students.
During Summer 2025, seven area Yale students held internships at the Connecticut Department of Public Health, the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education, Connecticut Invention Convention, Hartford HealthCare, Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services (IRIS), the Office of the Secretary of the State, Real Art Ways, and Wheeler Health. Of those 4, three were incoming freshmen, with one funded by the Club’s Robert Jackson Fund. The late Robert Jackson was the chief executive officer of Phoenix Life Insurance.
Applying to be a Summer Fellow
In Summer 2026, the Yale Club of Hartford will again sponsor a number of paid internships for Yale students at non-profits and government offices in the Greater Hartford and Northern Connecticut areas. We will assist participating students with their internship placements and will fund a stipend for each student so they can focus on serving at the non-profit or government office where they "match.”
We're looking for students who are eager to gain meaningful experience this coming summer as they give back to the Connecticut communities in Yale's backyard! In the past, our summer internship program has helped students build skills around strategy, consulting, finance, marketing, technology, data science, and more which students have applied toward their future work, whether in the non-profit and public sectors or beyond.
Freshmen and Sophomore applicants are welcome and encouraged to apply!
Update - Fall 2025: Applications for Summer 2026 may be submitted starting in October or November and must be received no later than February 28, 2026. Submissions can be made via e-mail or via the Yale Career Link website. Students should plan to submit their resume along with a short statement of interest that includes mention of the kind of non-profit work they would like to support (e.g., arts and culture, education, healthcare, social action and advocacy, legal assistance, philanthropy, etc.). If a student has identified one or more specific Connecticut non-profits or government offices at which they would like to serve, they are encouraged to make note of this when applying. While priority will be given to applicants from the Hartford and Northern Connecticut areas, applicants from outside these areas will also be considered.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a currently-enrolled student at Yale University (including newly-matriculating students)
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong interest in the non-profit sector, public policy, or social impact work
Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management abilities
Priority will be given to applicants from Hartford and Northern Connecticut
